This summer I finally got a chance to do some water activities in the popular Okanagan Lake here in Kelowna. Together with my 2 roommates we made a plan to do some canoeing in the lake. We rented out a Canoe for 2 hours near Bear Creek Provincial Park. The person handing out the canoes gave some quick instructions and then we were off on our own. We had life jackets on which reassured us as this was the first time I was out canoeing. The only previous experience I had of rowing was when I participated in University of British Columbia’s iconic Day of the Longboat race back during my Masters.

Initially we had a bit of trouble understanding how to direct and row in tandem. But we soon caught up and got comfortable. The lake was calm that day which was good. We rowed around for a while soaking in the views and the experience of floating in the lake. After maybe 30 min we directed our canoe to a isolated beach, parked our canoe and spent the time in the water just having fun. It was an incredibly enjoyable experience. After an hour of fun we resumed our canoeing and rowed back to the starting point.
It was a fun way to spend a lazy summer Sunday morning.
