Today was one of the best days of my blogging journey of 15 years. I was told that one of my blog posts was directly responsible for kickstarting a project to restore a centuries old stepwell in a village in Telangana, India. The restoration work is complete and it is set for inauguration on September 20, 2024 at Lingampet, Telangana, India.
It all started in 2018 when my dad mentioned about a stepwell in our ancestral village of Lingampet and took me there the next day to show me the place. The stepwell was in ruins with fallen walls and vegetation growing deep into the crevices of the stone work. My dad Suboor Siddiqui has always been a history buff and his keen interest in the subject was how I got into it.
After the visit to the stepwell I wrote about it on my blog. Two years later that post caught the attention of the Water Warrior, Kalpana Ramesh ma’am (and her team at Rainwater Project including Mr Sada Kesav) who, along with strong support from the then Collector of Kamareddy Mr. Jitesh Patel, started the project of reviving and restoring the stepwell. Now, the work is complete and it is set for its official inauguration.
The stepwell is no longer forgotten!
Friends and family, if anyone is around the area, do attend the ceremony!
